Bihar CM Critiques Rabri Devi Over Bungalow Dispute

Sheikhpura, June 2: Bihar’s former Chief Minister Rabri Devi is at the center of a bungalow controversy. Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary responded for the first time on Tuesday, emphasizing that this is a democracy, not a monarchy. “No one has a monopoly here,” he stated.

While addressing a cooperative camp in Barbigah block of Sheikhpura, CM Chaudhary remarked that some individuals believe actions are being taken against them. However, he clarified that no one is targeted. He shared his own experience, saying, “I have served as a minister and deputy chief minister multiple times over the past decade, but I have never lived in a government residence. I have always resided in my private home.”

CM Chaudhary expressed gratitude towards Nitish Kumar, noting that he received no notice to vacate but moved out of the CM residence immediately after stepping down. “In a democracy, people want to see those who serve the public. I have even had ‘Public Servant’ written on the house opposite the Chief Minister’s residence,” he added.

He stressed that no one has a claim to a government residence. “This is not a monarchy where you stay in the house assigned to you. I became a minister in 1999, and the house I live in now is my 11th. I have lived in three houses myself, while using others for office purposes,” he explained.

Chaudhary took a jab at former CM Rabri Devi, suggesting that some individuals have an attachment to their residences. “A son wants a separate house, and so does the mother, with no regard for the public,” he said.

He advised that their focus should be on serving the public. “Forget about houses. I assure you, the day our party and leaders say my work is done, I will pack my bag and leave within 24 hours. I will not stay in a government residence. We are here for the welfare of the people, not for our own benefit,” he concluded.

It is noteworthy that the government has issued a notice to Rabri Devi to vacate 10 Circular Road. In return, she has been allotted a bungalow at 39 Harding Road. However, Rabri Devi has refused to leave the 10 Circular Road residence, leading to a standoff between the ruling party and the opposition.
