Mumbai, March 8: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar visited Bakhtiyarpur in Patna district today to review various ongoing development projects. He instructed officials to expedite the completion of these initiatives.
During his visit, he inspected the under-construction railway overbridge near Bakhtiyarpur Engineering College, the new building of Ganesh Higher Secondary School, a park near the statue of freedom fighter Dumarsingh, and the Bakhtiyarpur-Tajpur four-lane bridge over the Ganges River. Local residents warmly welcomed the Chief Minister, expressing gratitude for the development efforts.
The Chief Minister first examined the two-lane railway overbridge being built near Bakhtiyarpur Engineering College. Officials reported that the project is set to be completed this month. Kumar emphasized the need for swift completion of this bridge, which connects NH-30 and SH-106. He noted that the bridge will facilitate better connectivity between the old Patna-Bakhtiyarpur route (SH-106) and the new four-lane road (NH-30). This will ease transportation for residents on both sides, save time, and improve traffic flow. It will also provide direct access for students and teachers to Bakhtiyarpur Engineering College and Patliputra University.
Next, the Chief Minister assessed the new five-story building at Ganesh Higher Secondary School, which will house 45 classrooms. He urged for acceleration in construction to enhance the learning environment for students. Reflecting on his own childhood, he shared fond memories of attending this school. He also directed the swift completion of the park near the statue of the late freedom fighter Dumarsingh.
Kumar then inspected the construction site of the Bakhtiyarpur (Karjan)-Tajpur (Samastipur) four-lane bridge and access road over the Ganges River. He traveled from Karjan in the Athmalgola block to Kalyanpur, gathering detailed updates on the project’s progress. Pankaj Kumar Pal, Secretary of the Road Construction Department, informed him that the bridge and access road are progressing rapidly and are expected to be completed by the end of this year. The Chief Minister instructed for even quicker progress, stating that this bridge will connect North and South Bihar, alleviating traffic pressure on Mahatma Gandhi Setu and Rajendra Setu. It will facilitate easier travel for residents and save time, while also improving access to key tourist sites, religious locations, educational institutions, and hospitals. This will provide an alternative route for vehicles coming from Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, and Begusarai.
The project stretches from Karjan (Bakhtiyarpur) in Patna district to National Highway-31, reaching National Highway-28 in Samastipur district, covering a total length of 51.26 kilometers, which includes a 5.51-kilometer bridge over the Ganges and a 45.75-kilometer access road.
During the inspection, former MLA Gyanendra Singh Gyanoo, Secretary of the Road Construction Department Pankaj Kumar Pal, the Chief Minister’s Secretary Kumar Ravi, Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh, Managing Director of Bihar State Road Development Corporation Titash Kapil Ashok, District Magistrate Dr. Tyagarajan S.M., and Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K. Sharma were also present. The Chief Minister’s visit has sparked enthusiasm among local residents regarding development.
