Jammu, March 14: In a bid to enhance the transparency and efficiency of LPG cylinder supply in Jammu district, District Magistrate Dr. Rakesh Minhas chaired a high-level meeting on Saturday. The meeting brought together key LPG distributors and representatives from oil marketing companies including IOC, BPCL, and HPCL.
Present at the meeting were Additional District Magistrate Vidhu Shekhar, Anusuya Jamwal, and Additional District Development Commissioner Sher Singh. Dr. Minhas opened the meeting by issuing strict directives to all distributors to fully comply with the guidelines and latest circulars issued by the central government, state government, and district administration. He emphasized the necessity of adhering to the established supply schedule.
The DM ordered a complete ban on any form of biased behavior towards consumers. He stated that the entire LPG distribution process must be fair and transparent. No consumer should be denied a cylinder without valid reasons, nor should anyone receive preferential treatment.
Dr. Minhas expressed strong discontent regarding the unnecessary long queues forming outside distribution centers. He noted that such queues cause significant inconvenience to the public and can be entirely avoided. Distributors were warned that they would be held personally accountable for allowing crowds to gather outside the centers.
To ensure effective monitoring of compliance, Dr. Minhas announced the formation of special monitoring teams. These teams will conduct regular and surprise inspections at various LPG distribution centers in the district. They will cross-verify stock availability, distribution based on bookings, timely refills, accurate billing processes, and adherence to all protocols. Any irregularities or negligence will be promptly reported.
The DM made it clear that any disruption or corruption in the distribution process would not be tolerated. Strict legal action will be taken against guilty distributors or employees, which may include suspension or cancellation of licenses. This meeting comes at a time when the demand for LPG has surged in Jammu and Kashmir due to the winter season, leading to complaints of delays in refills in certain areas.
