Patna, February 24: The Bihar Vigilance Investigation Bureau achieved significant success on Tuesday with the arrest of two officials involved in bribery. A survey amin stationed in the Muraina block of Supaul district and the block development officer from Ujiarpur in Samastipur district were caught red-handed accepting bribes.

According to a bureau official, Vikram Kumar Ram, the survey amin from Muraina, was arrested while accepting a bribe of ₹20,000. The arrest followed a complaint lodged at the bureau’s headquarters by Jaganarayan Yadav, a resident of Khorama village in the Muraina police area. Yadav alleged that Ram was demanding a bribe to complete pending land survey work. After verifying the complaint, the bureau formed a raid team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Narendra Kumar.

The raid team apprehended Vikram Kumar Ram on Tuesday while he was accepting the bribe from his rented accommodation in Ward No. 1 of the Nirmali Nagar Panchayat.

In another operation, a team from the bureau arrested Rajesh Kumar Bhagat, the block supply officer from Ujiarpur, while he was accepting a bribe of ₹10,000. He was accused of demanding a bribe in exchange for increasing the allocation of additional food under the public distribution system. After confirming the allegations, a raid team was formed, which arrested him at his residence.

Both cases have been registered at the Vigilance Police Station. Bureau officials are currently interrogating the two accused, who will be presented in a special vigilance court afterward.

It is noteworthy that the Vigilance Investigation Bureau has arrested 17 individuals in corruption cases this year alone, recovering over ₹700,000 in bribes.
