New Delhi, April 6: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge sparked controversy during an election rally in Kerala by making derogatory remarks about the people of Gujarat. He described them as ‘uneducated’ and claimed that Prime Minister Modi could easily mislead them, unlike the more educated and aware citizens of Kerala. This statement has drawn a sharp rebuke from Gujarat’s Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
Chief Minister Patel labeled Kharge’s comments as offensive and unfortunate, asserting that they insult the people of Gujarat. He emphasized that such remarks tarnish the dignity of the land of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel.
In a post on the social media platform X, Patel stated, “The comments made by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge regarding the people of Gujarat are extremely objectionable and unfortunate. Such remarks not only insult 60 million Gujaratis but also undermine the dignity of the sacred land of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel.”
Patel further noted that Gujarat has always played a leading role in nation-building, development, and unity, and will continue to do so. He suggested that such statements reflect Congress’s narrow-mindedness and illustrate how uncomfortable and insecure they feel about the widespread public support for the BJP’s development agenda under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He concluded by asserting that the aware populace of Gujarat knows how to respond to such comments, and it is certain that the people of Kerala will also reject Congress in favor of supporting the BJP’s development politics in the future.
