New Delhi, June 9: The Ministry of External Affairs has confirmed that there was communication between the Palauan-flagged vessel MT Marivax and the US Navy prior to the incident off the coast of Oman. This was announced during a weekly media briefing on Tuesday.
Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that all 24 Indian sailors aboard the vessel have been safely rescued. He mentioned that the Indian Embassy has been in continuous contact with Omani authorities and other relevant agencies following the incident.
Jaiswal noted, “MT Marivax became inactive near the coast of Oman. According to available information, there was dialogue between the ship and the US Navy before the incident. All 24 Indian nationals on board have been safely evacuated.”
He added that the Indian Embassy reached out to Omani officials for the rescue operation, which led to immediate action.
“We are in touch with all stakeholders, including the Ministry of Shipping in India, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC), and other parties involved. We express our gratitude to the Omani government for their crucial role in rescuing the crew and ensuring their safety. The Indian mission is still in contact with the sailors,” Jaiswal stated.
Earlier, the Indian Embassy in Muscat also confirmed that all 24 Indian sailors were safely rescued following a fire incident south of the Strait of Hormuz. The embassy praised the swift action of Omani authorities.
Meanwhile, India’s Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways reported that the fire on the vessel was reported around 1:30 PM on Monday. According to ministry officials, all Indian sailors are currently safe.
Director of the Shipping Division, Opesh Kumar Sharma, mentioned that it is still unclear whether the ship was hit by a projectile. Facts regarding the incident are being verified. He stated that the ministry is in constant contact with the ship’s owners, the Ministry of External Affairs, and the Indian mission in Oman, and the investigation is ongoing.
