Bengaluru, August 19: Bengaluru police have successfully dismantled a gang involved in luxury car theft, arresting two suspects, including a woman. The police recovered a Toyota Fortuner valued at ₹3.5 million, which had been stolen from a hotel parking lot in Bengaluru.
According to police reports, the complainant, a resident of Chennai, arrived in Bengaluru on June 26, 2026, driving the Toyota Fortuner. He stayed at a hotel located on Hosur Road. That evening, he went out to watch a movie and returned to the hotel around 1:30 AM. After locking his car in the hotel parking, he discovered it missing the next morning. He subsequently filed a complaint at the Parappana Agrahara police station.
During the investigation, police explored various angles and began searching for the suspects based on tips from informants. On July 4, 2026, a police team intercepted the suspects near Karad on the Belagavi-Pune National Highway. While the main suspect managed to escape with the stolen car, his female accomplice was taken into custody.
During questioning, the woman revealed that she and her partner specialized in stealing luxury cars to sell them for quick cash. She was later arrested and presented in court, where she was remanded to judicial custody.
To apprehend the main suspect, the Deputy Commissioner of Police formed a special team. This team successfully arrested him on July 17, 2026, based on reliable information near the Silk Board area.
In interrogation, the suspect disclosed that he used modern tools to create duplicate keys for luxury cars. With these keys, he could unlock car doors and steal them, later selling them to acquaintances in the desert regions of Barmer and Balotra in Rajasthan.
The court has sent the suspect to police custody for 14 days for further questioning. Following his lead, the police recovered the stolen Toyota Fortuner from the desert area of Aleti in the Dhori Manna police station jurisdiction on July 24, 2026.
The investigation revealed that the main suspect has a total of 21 criminal cases registered against him in various police stations across Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu.
Police stated that the entire operation was carried out under the guidance of DCP M. Narayan from the Electronic City Division, with ACP Satish R. leading the team, including Parappana Agrahara station chief Naveen Kumar P.G. The investigation is ongoing.
