New Delhi: In the eighth match of the Women’s Hockey India League (HIL), Shrachi Bengal Tigers defeated hosts Ranchi Royals 1-0. The lone goal was scored by Agustina Gorzelani, securing three valuable points for her team. This victory propelled Shrachi Bengal Tigers to the second position in the points table.
The match, held at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astro Turf Hockey Stadium, saw Ranchi Royals dominate the midfield early on, controlling the pace of the game. In the first quarter, the Royals earned five penalty corners and seven circle penetrations but were repeatedly denied by Shrachi Bengal Tigers’ goalkeeper Jennifer Rizo’s impressive saves.
In the second quarter, Shrachi Bengal Tigers gradually gained control, applying pressure on the Royals’ defence. They earned seven circle penetrations and several penalty corners. However, Ranchi Royals’ goalkeeper Madhuri Kindo stood firm, making crucial saves to keep the scoreline level at 0-0 at halftime.
The Royals intensified their attack at the start of the second half, but in the 37th minute, Agustina Gorzelani converted a penalty corner to give Shrachi Bengal Tigers a 1-0 lead. This was her fourth goal of the season.
Ranchi Royals tried to respond quickly, but the disciplined and sturdy defence of Shrachi Bengal Tigers in the third quarter prevented them from finding any breakthrough.
At the beginning of the final quarter, Ranchi Royals maintained greater possession and earned seven circle penetrations and five penalty corners. Despite this, they could not score, as Shrachi Bengal Tigers’ defence remained resolute throughout.
