Lucknow, April 2: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) faced a 6-wicket defeat against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the fifth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. LSG captain Rishabh Pant attributed the loss to the extra runs conceded by his team.
Batting first, Lucknow Super Giants were restricted to 141 runs in 18.4 overs. In response, DC managed to chase down the target in just 17.1 overs, despite losing 4 wickets for only 26 runs. LSG gave away 20 extra runs, including 16 wides and 4 leg byes.
After the match, Pant stated, “When you score 140 runs, you tend to push harder. If they play normal cricket, they win. If we had taken a few more wickets in the power play, we could have put them under pressure.”
Pant acknowledged that the bowlers received assistance from the pitch early on, but felt that his team failed to capitalize on it while batting. He explained, “The new ball was helping, but we couldn’t form any significant partnerships. When you don’t have enough runs, you have to make tough decisions, like bowling to a certain batsman.”
Discussing his own dismissal, Pant remarked, “The best way to recover from it is to ignore it. You can’t control it, and dwelling on it only adds pressure.”
In this match, Pant scored just 7 runs before getting out, while Ayush Badoni failed to open his account. Reflecting on the batting strategy and Badoni’s role, Pant said, “The plan was straightforward. He would handle the middle overs while I would come up the batting order. We wanted to maintain a left-right combination to counter their left-arm spinner. I got out at a bad time. Axar still had one over left in the power play, which could have helped us.”
