Ranchi, April 1: The 16th Hockey India Sub-Junior Women’s National Championship 2026 kicked off with impressive performances from Delhi, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir, all securing victories in their respective matches.

On Wednesday, in Pool A Division ‘B’, Delhi Hockey triumphed over Hockey Bengal with a score of 2-0, thanks to last-minute goals from captain Deepika (59′) and Bhavna (60′).

In another match of Pool A Division ‘B’, Dadra and Nagar Haveli along with Daman and Diu Hockey defeated Assam Hockey 4-3. The winning team saw goals from Shraddha Verma (3′), Arpita Maurya (7′), Mansi Yadav (12′), and Anushka Gupta (30′). For Assam, Roli Devi (28′), Chayanika Kalita (35′), and Jyoshna Ekka (57′) found the net.

In Pool B Division ‘B’, Hockey Uttarakhand claimed a 6-3 victory against Hockey Himachal. Karina scored a hat-trick (34′, 45′, 52′), while Devyani Joshi netted two goals (25′, 32′) and Katarina Gungun added one (20′). For Himachal, Ekampreet Kaur (23′, 41′) and Shanvi Sharma (43′) scored.

Another match in Pool B Division ‘B’ saw Hockey Chandigarh defeating Hockey Karnataka 2-1, with goals from captain Aanchal (13′) and Kaafi (60′). Karnataka’s sole goal came from Madivalappa Basamma.

In Pool B Division ‘C’, Hockey Jammu and Kashmir narrowly defeated Le Puducherry Hockey 3-2. Akshara Dutta scored twice (8′, 44′), and Mauki added another (4′). For Le Puducherry, Giraka Gyaneshwari (15′) and Boya Shruti (39′) each scored.

This tournament will run until April 12 and is being played in a competitive division-based format. A total of 29 teams will compete across Division ‘A’, Division ‘B’, and Division ‘C’, making the competition even more thrilling with promotion and relegation stakes. Teams in Division ‘A’ will vie for the championship title, while the top two teams from Divisions ‘B’ and ‘C’ will earn promotion. Conversely, the bottom two teams in Divisions ‘A’ and ‘B’ will face relegation in the next edition.

Division ‘A’ consists of 12 teams divided into four pools. The knockout stage will commence on April 9 and conclude with the final on April 12. The host team, Hockey Jharkhand, leads Pool A alongside Bihar (BSSA) and Hockey Maharashtra. Pool B includes the Hockey Association of Odisha, Hockey Punjab, and Hockey Andhra Pradesh. Pool C features Hockey Haryana, Hockey Madhya Pradesh, and Manipur Hockey, while Pool D consists of Hockey Mizoram, Uttar Pradesh Hockey, and Chhattisgarh Hockey.

In these matches held at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi, teams earn 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss. In Division ‘A’, tied knockout matches will be resolved through shoot-outs as per FIH regulations.
