Jaipur, August 31: The Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) has announced candidates for 20 out of 60 wards in the Banswara Municipal Council. This marks the party’s inaugural participation in the municipal elections in this tribal-dominated area.
Political parties in Rajasthan are ramping up preparations for the upcoming municipal elections. On the last day for filing nomination papers, both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released their first lists of candidates for several municipal councils.
In the Nagaur Municipal Council, Congress has announced candidates for 49 out of 60 wards, while the BJP has named candidates for 46 wards. Congress has opted not to give a ticket to former council president Mangilal Bhati from Ward No. 10, instead fielding his nephew Praveen Solanki, the son of former president Kriparam Solanki.
This decision has set the stage for a potential contest between the uncle and nephew, sparking a new political controversy. Both the BJP and Congress have also announced candidates for the Dausa Municipal Council.
The BJP has released a list of candidates for the Beawar Municipal Council and four municipalities in Beawar district. For the Beawar Municipal Council, the party has announced candidates for 57 out of 60 wards, with announcements for wards 22, 32, and 59 still pending. The BJP has also released a complete list for all 25 wards in the Salumber Municipal Council.
Former councilor and opposition leader Prabhulal Jain sought a ticket for Ward No. 2. However, the BJP chose Karan Singh Pawar, secretary of the Udaipur Rural district unit, as its candidate. Similarly, Mahesh Garg, a member of the city unit’s executive committee, requested a ticket for Ward No. 13 but was replaced by Naresh Vaishnav.
Frustrated by not receiving a ticket, Garg has filed his nomination as an independent candidate. The BJP has nominated Chanda Suthar, daughter-in-law of former council president Nandalal Suthar, for Ward No. 19. Kailash Gandhi, former vice president of Udaipur Rural, has been given a ticket for Ward No. 8.
The release of candidate lists has intensified political activity across Rajasthan. Many aspiring candidates are now deciding whether to stay with their parties or run as independents.
