New Delhi, July 30: Dinesh Trivedi, India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, expressed optimism that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s upcoming visit to India will enhance relations between the two nations. Local media reported on Thursday that Trivedi stated all issues between the countries could be resolved.
Speaking to reporters after separate meetings with Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Khalidur Rahman and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam, Trivedi described the discussions as positive.
According to the Bangladeshi media outlet UNB, Trivedi remarked, “I am looking forward to everything positively. Our meeting was very good and filled with positivity.”
The High Commissioner also met with Bangladesh’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shama Obaid Chinoy. They engaged in extensive discussions aimed at further strengthening India-Bangladesh bilateral relations.
After his meetings with Foreign Minister Dr. Khalidur Rahman and State Minister Shama Obaid Chinoy, Trivedi reiterated, “I view everything from a positive perspective. Our meeting was very constructive and meaningful.”
When asked about inviting Rahman to India, Trivedi stated that the decision rests with the Bangladeshi Prime Minister.
He added, “From our side, I assure you that we are eager to welcome the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to India. We are hopeful that this visit will happen soon.”
Last week, India extended an invitation to Prime Minister Rahman for the 18th BRICS Summit scheduled in New Delhi in September. He was also invited to visit India during his swearing-in ceremony in February.
In response to a question regarding the Teesta and Ganga water treaty, the Indian Ambassador noted, “Today’s meeting was primarily a courtesy visit and was warm as expected. However, there is no issue that cannot be resolved through mutual understanding. Ultimately, it is about the people. Any matter that benefits both democracies and their citizens will be prioritized.”
