Bangladesh Faces Ongoing Measles Outbreak, 631 Children Dead Since March

Dhaka, June 9: The measles outbreak in Bangladesh has claimed the lives of 631 children since March. This alarming situation has become a significant concern for health authorities, according to local media reports.

In the last 24 hours, three more children have died from measles-like symptoms, with 54 new cases confirmed. This brings the total number of deaths related to measles and similar symptoms this year to 631. The health department reported new confirmed cases in Dhaka, Sylhet, and Mymensingh.

Data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) indicates that 980 new suspected patients have emerged in the past 24 hours. Since March 15, there have been 81,084 suspected cases of measles reported across the country.

According to the news agency UNB, health officials confirmed that 54 cases tested positive for measles in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of confirmed cases since March 15 to 9,833.

Between March 15 and June 9, hospitals have admitted 81,084 patients with suspected measles symptoms. Of these, 62,292 have recovered and returned home.

Fortunately, there were no reported deaths among the confirmed measles cases in the last 24 hours. However, the total number of fatalities among confirmed cases has reached 92 since March 15.

In the suspected measles category, three deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours, increasing the total fatalities in this group to 539.

Regionally, the highest number of suspected cases has been reported in the Dhaka division, with 37,798 patients recorded, of which 6,822 have been confirmed as measles cases.

Health experts are urging the public to ensure timely vaccinations for children, seek medical advice immediately if symptoms appear, and take precautions to prevent the spread of infection.
