Balochistan Under Curfew: Local Residents Report Severe Impact on Daily Life

Quetta, May 31: Residents in the Mashkay area of Balochistan’s Awaran district are facing a severe shortage of food and essential supplies due to a curfew and movement restrictions imposed by the Pakistani military. This situation has now entered its second week, according to local media reports.

The Balochistan Post indicates that these military-enforced restrictions have completely limited movement in Mashkay, disrupting food supplies. Locals report that the prolonged curfew has made it extremely difficult for sick individuals to reach hospitals for treatment.

Residents of Mashkay have expressed that these restrictions have drastically affected their daily lives, exacerbating their problems. However, officials have yet to issue any official statement regarding the reasons for these restrictions or the curfew.

The Baloch Yakjehti Committee, a human rights organization, has condemned these restrictions, stating they are part of an effort to “completely paralyze civilian life.” According to the organization, these measures have infringed upon basic freedoms, confining people to their homes.

The committee also alleged that even during occasions like Eid, residents were not allowed to purchase animals for sacrifice, indicating that the restrictions extend beyond daily life to impact social and religious activities.

The organization noted that access to essential services such as education and healthcare is being disrupted. School closures are affecting students’ education, while patients and their families are facing ongoing difficulties in hospitals.

The BYC has urged international human rights organizations to promptly address the ongoing restrictions in various regions of Balochistan and take effective measures to safeguard the fundamental rights of the people.
