Ranchi, August 29: The health department of Jharkhand is taking every possible precaution to prevent the spread of swine flu. The department is on high alert across the state.
Health Minister Irfan Ansari reviewed the situation on Saturday. He instructed all civil surgeons, heads of medical colleges, and district surveillance officers to maintain strict vigilance. Continuous monitoring was also emphasized.
The minister directed health officials to ensure the prompt identification, testing, treatment, monitoring, and timely referral of suspected and severe cases. He stated that the state government is fully committed to protecting the health and lives of its citizens. Ansari assured that the health department is well-prepared to handle any potential situation related to H1N1.
He mentioned that all necessary arrangements are being made to address any potential issues. From the timely identification of suspected patients to testing, treatment, and referrals where necessary, every level of the system has been strengthened. Our commitment is to ensure that no lives are lost to swine flu.
He also discussed preparations with Additional Chief Secretary Ajay Kumar, senior health officials, and civil surgeons from various districts to review readiness and issue necessary directives.
According to a press release, the minister instructed all districts to enhance monitoring and reporting of influenza-like illnesses (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infections (SARI). District surveillance officers have been directed to keep a close watch on the situation and promptly inform the health department of any significant developments. They are also tasked with ensuring the swift identification of suspected and severe cases so that patients can receive appropriate treatment without delay.
The government has directed RIMS Ranchi, all medical college hospitals, and district hospitals to reserve an additional 10 beds for potential H1N1 patients. Hospitals are also instructed to ensure adequate supplies of oxygen, necessary medications, medical equipment, testing facilities, ICU and HDU readiness, and the availability of trained doctors and paramedical staff.
The health department has also been directed to exercise special vigilance at airports, railway stations, bus stands, and other major public places.
Individuals exhibiting symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, cold, or difficulty breathing may require medical examination. Influenza/H1N1 testing will be conducted based on medical advice, while patients with severe symptoms will be referred for immediate and appropriate treatment. Ansari urged the public to remain vigilant rather than panic.
