Ranchi, February 19: During the second day of the budget session in the Jharkhand Assembly, Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi launched a strong attack on the Hemant Soren-led government while discussing the Governor’s address. He accused the government of failing in various sectors, raising several issues related to law and order, land acquisition, mining, budget announcements, and administrative appointments.

At the start of the discussion, Marandi demanded the removal of the Prime Minister’s name from the proceedings, referencing comments made in relation to the Epstein files. While commenting on the Governor’s address, he noted that it is a document prepared by the government, which the Governor reads, but this time it appeared “helpless.”

Marandi questioned Chief Minister Hemant Soren‘s decision to be abroad on January 26, asking if it was appropriate for the Chief Minister to be away from his constitutional duties on Republic Day. He also called for the establishment of statues and a dedicated library honoring Jharkhand’s great personalities and historical figures, including Birsa Munda, Jaipal Singh Munda, and Guru Dishom.

He emphasized that the struggle for water, forests, and land continues for the people of the state. Marandi accused the government of displacing residents in the Amda Pada area of Jasidih and Dumka under the guise of industrial and coal block projects. He insisted that industries should be set up on barren land instead of fertile tribal agricultural land, and proper rehabilitation for displaced families should be ensured.

He raised concerns about the land selection for the RIMS-2 project, stating that land acquired decades ago is currently being farmed, suggesting that alternative barren land should be utilized. During this discussion, Minister Irfan Ansari accused the BJP and RSS of establishing offices on tribal land, to which Marandi responded that they are not against hospitals but rather against the method of land selection.

Marandi also highlighted issues such as law and order, the appointment process of the former DGP, the alleged liquor scam, the functioning of the ACB, vacant positions for information commissioners, auctioning of mineral blocks, and the failure to meet rice procurement targets. The debate witnessed sharp exchanges between the ruling party and the opposition.
