Author Faces Legal Action for Alleged Comments Against Hinduism and Lord Ram

Bengaluru, June 13: Police in Karnataka’s Davanagere district have filed a case against author and rationalist K.S. Bhagwan. The charges stem from comments he allegedly made against Hinduism, Lord Ram, and Hindu scriptures during an event.

Reports indicate that the FIR was lodged by the Harihar rural police in Davanagere district following a complaint from Dinesh, a resident of K.R. Nagar in Harihar, on June 12.

According to the complaint, K.S. Bhagwan participated in an event on June 9, organized by the Karnataka Dalit Struggle Committee to commemorate B. Krishnappa Jayanti and Bhimrao Ambedkar Jayanti. The complainant alleges that the author made derogatory and inflammatory statements regarding Lord Ram, Hindu beliefs, and the Valmiki Ramayana.

The complaint states, “The author commented that ‘Lord Ram was not born to King Dasharath’ and ‘Hindu deities should not be worshipped.’ Allegedly, he also stated, ‘Hindu deities are deities of murder, and Valmiki disrespected the scripture by providing incorrect information about the Ramayana.’”

Furthermore, the complaint claims that Bhagwan’s remarks have severely hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus, creating unrest, tension, and animosity among different communities. It also accuses him of disrespecting the faith of people in Hindu deities.

The complaint calls for legal action against K.S. Bhagwan. Based on this complaint, the Harihar rural police have registered a case under sections 196(1)(A) and 299 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and have initiated further investigation.
