
Guwahati, August 22: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Friday that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has officially granted approval for Bongaigaon Medical College to admit 100 MBBS students.
According to the Chief Minister, this approval makes Bongaigaon Medical College the 15th medical college in Assam, increasing the total number of MBBS seats in the state to 1,925.
Sarma described this development as a significant milestone in expanding medical education in Assam and strengthening the state’s healthcare infrastructure.
In a post on the social media platform X, he expressed his happiness, stating, “I am pleased to announce that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has approved Bongaigaon Medical College to admit 100 MBBS students.”
The Chief Minister noted that the new medical college will further contribute to Assam’s growing medical education ecosystem and assist the state government’s efforts to develop Assam as a major center for medical education.
He also thanked Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda for his continuous support and for granting approval to the medical college.
Sarma emphasized, “With this, Bongaigaon Medical College becomes Assam’s 15th medical college, bringing our total MBBS seats to 1,925.” He called this approval a moment of pride for Assam.
He added that the expansion of medical education will create more opportunities for students wishing to pursue medical studies in the state.
This development comes at a time when the state government is focused on expanding medical and healthcare facilities throughout Assam, including increasing access to medical education and trained healthcare professionals.
The addition of 100 MBBS seats at Bongaigaon Medical College is expected to provide more opportunities for students from Assam and the entire North-East region to receive medical education closer to home.
