Kohima, August 22: Binod Kumar, Secretary of the Election Commission of India (ECI), urged election officials in Nagaland on Friday to expedite the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. This initiative aims to improve mapping percentages and ensure accurate updates to voter data.
Kumar held several meetings with election officials from Kohima, Chumoukedima, and Dimapur districts starting Thursday. He discussed the progress of the voter list revision in detail.
In Dimapur, a review meeting on the voter list revision was conducted in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, attended by the ECI Secretary.
Addressing the meeting, Kumar emphasized the importance of enumeration forms (EF) and stressed the need for voter registration officials (ERO) and assistant voter registration officials (AERO) to closely monitor the work of booth-level officers (BLO).
He engaged with election officials to review the challenges faced in the ground-level work.
BLOs were advised to conduct comprehensive verification and mapping at the grassroots level while establishing close coordination with relevant election officials.
Kumar highlighted the necessity for better coordination among district election officers (DEO), ERO, AERO, and BLO to complete the mapping work on time and achieve the desired progress.
After the review meeting, Secretary Kumar visited two polling stations in the Dimapur-3 assembly constituency to assess the progress of the SIR process and its implementation at the grassroots level.
In Chumoukedima district, the ECI Secretary also reviewed the ongoing progress of the SIR for voter lists.
Kumar urged officials to adhere to the set deadlines and complete all SIR-related activities within the specified timeframe. He also called for appropriate solutions to the challenges faced by BLOs and emphasized the importance of ensuring that awareness and relevant information reach all citizens in the district.
