
Imphal, June 13: Assam Rifles and Thoubal police commandos conducted a successful joint operation in the Purnahhetupokpi area of Kakching district, Manipur. During this operation, they recovered a significant cache of military-grade weapons and equipment.
This operation dealt a major blow to active militant groups in the region and showcased the commitment of security forces to maintain peace and security. The recovered items included an American-made .32 pistol with four rounds of ammunition, two SBBL guns, two detonators, various types of ammunition including 17 AK rounds, 18 SLR rounds, 29 rounds of .303 ammunition, a striker spring, two tear smoke shells, 12 KCP logo stickers, and a bipod.
Additionally, the operation yielded security equipment such as 12 bulletproof plates, two bulletproof fiber plates, two helmets, one bulletproof jacket, 60 combat shirts, 57 combat pants, two combat jackets, 18 combat caps, eight pairs of combat boots, 23 combat belts, and an MP-5 sling. The seized weapons, ammunition, and other items have been handed over to Heirok police station for further investigation and legal action.
Earlier, 21 personnel from Manipur police and central security forces had recovered 67 weapons. A joint team from Manipur police, Assam Rifles, and CRPF conducted a search operation at an illegal UNLF camp located in Lamdeng, where they seized 29 weapons, including AK-series rifles, M-series rifles, pistols, and other modern arms.
On the same day, in another operation, security forces seized 38 additional weapons, including AK-series rifles, M-series rifles, sniper rifles, carbines, shotguns, mortars, an RPG-7 launcher, anti-drone jammers, and a large quantity of explosives and ammunition. During this operation, four militants from the United National Liberation Front-Pambei faction were also arrested. Police reported that during the arrest, the militants’ associates opened fire on security forces, leading to a brief exchange of gunfire.
