Imphal, April 18: The Assam Rifles took a significant step towards cultural preservation by celebrating World Heritage Day with the local community in Sehlon village, Chandel district, on Saturday.
This initiative was thoughtfully designed to foster a shared sense of heritage conservation in the region. It holds particular importance in Manipur’s current social landscape, where preserving local identity and traditional customs serves as a crucial bridge for community unity.
The day began with a collective cleanliness drive, where Assam Rifles personnel collaborated with local residents to rejuvenate the village’s communal spaces. This effort showcased the urgent need to maintain and honor heritage sites.
The spirit of collective effort transformed into a visual awareness campaign, with informative posters displayed throughout the village to promote discussions on conservation. Following this, an in-depth discussion session highlighted how safeguarding local history lays a strong foundation for future generations.

Approximately 58 villagers enthusiastically participated, making the event a successful platform for strengthening community bonds. Additionally, the Assam Rifles made a significant move towards economic independence by concluding a week-long bakery skill development workshop at the Kakching Garrison on Saturday. This intensive training program, which began on April 13, was a necessary step following the launch of a modern bakery in Seru village under ‘Operation Sadbhavana’ last month. Given the current conditions in Manipur, such initiatives play a crucial role in empowering the community for long-term resilience. They provide a positive pathway toward economic stability for youth and women.
During this workshop, five participants from Seru and Kakching, including one woman and four men, received practical expertise in the art of baking bread, pastries, and cookies. The course was designed to bridge the gap between amateur baking and professional retail management, moving beyond basic cooking preparations.
The aim was to ensure that beneficiaries could fully utilize the professional-grade equipment previously provided to the Seru community. By equipping individuals with practical and market-oriented skills, this program promotes self-reliance and the spirit of small-scale entrepreneurship.
