Lucknow, April 20: Akhilesh Yadav, the national president of the Samajwadi Party, made a significant electoral announcement on Monday. He stated that if the SP forms the government in 2027, consumers will receive up to 300 units of free electricity. Additionally, women will be granted an annual pension of ₹40,000.
Yadav sharply criticized the current government over issues related to electricity, health, and inflation. Speaking to party workers from Bundelkhand and other districts at the state headquarters in Lucknow, he highlighted the struggles of the public with deteriorating health services and a shortage of fertilizers. He alleged that consumers are being exploited under the guise of smart meters, leading to irregular increases in electricity bills.
The SP leader noted that public anger against electricity theft via smart meters is growing. He accused the government of demanding advance commissions from companies before awarding contracts, which are then compensated by charging consumers higher bills.
Targeting the BJP, Yadav claimed that electricity meters are being manipulated like EVMs, and the public has become aware of this system. He warned that high electricity and gas cylinder prices would sever the BJP’s connection to power. Referring to the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he urged party workers to strategize for winning as many seats as possible in the 2027 assembly elections. He called for unity to defeat the BJP and emphasized the need for a solid strategy to ensure victory in every constituency.
Yadav described the current government as anti-democratic and unconstitutional, asserting that the state’s health, education, and electricity systems are in complete disarray. He promised that under an SP government, the rule of law would be reinstated, ensuring justice for all communities. He accused the BJP of defaming socialists and stated that despite misleading propaganda, the BJP’s tactics would not succeed. The public is weary of the BJP and desires change, he added, pointing out that inflation and corruption are at an all-time high, and the safety of women is a pressing concern. Trust in the BJP has eroded among the populace.
