Guwahati, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : Assam Police successfully rescued 82 cattle from an illegal smuggling operation in the Abhayapuri area of Bongaigaon district, following a tip-off. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the operation via social media on Monday, emphasizing that attempts to evade the law will not succeed.
The Chief Minister stated, “Trying to evade the law is futile.” He commended the police for their swift action against the alleged cattle smuggling operation. During the operation, officers intercepted the suspicious transport and rescued the animals. Additionally, two vehicles used for transporting the cattle were seized.
Tragically, two of the rescued cattle were found dead, raising concerns about their conditions during transport. Investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
Sarma has directed authorities to identify all individuals involved in the illegal smuggling and ensure strict legal action against them. This statement comes as the Assam administration intensifies efforts against organized networks engaged in the illegal transportation of cattle and other animals.
In response to intelligence reports, police operations have been ramped up across various regions of the state to intercept vehicles suspected of being involved in illegal animal transport. The seizure of the two vehicles is expected to aid investigators in uncovering the logistics and network behind the smuggling operation.
Authorities will also investigate the ownership of the vehicles and identify those responsible for arranging and transporting the cattle. Legal and administrative actions concerning the care of the rescued animals will be taken in accordance with established protocols. The Assam government has reiterated its commitment to prosecuting individuals involved in illegal animal transport under the law.
