BJP Dominates Rajasthan Local Body Elections, Outpaces Congress Significantly

Jaipur, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : The results of the Rajasthan local body elections were announced on September 14, revealing a significant victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Out of 9,900 wards across 309 municipal bodies, the BJP won 4,026 wards, while the Congress managed to secure 3,438. Additionally, independent and other candidates claimed victory in 2,436 wards.

From the outset, the BJP maintained a strong lead, which persisted through to the final results. However, the outcomes in the ten municipal corporations showed a mixed picture.

In Jaipur, the BJP achieved a majority by winning 78 wards, compared to Congress’s 53 and 15 for other candidates. Kota also saw a solid performance from the BJP, which won 55 wards, while Congress took 35 and others captured 4. Udaipur was another stronghold for the BJP, which won 53 out of 80 wards, leaving Congress with 23 and others with 4.

In Bhilwara, the BJP took control of 45 wards, while Congress secured 10 and others won 15. In Alwar, the BJP won 28 wards, with Congress following closely at 23 and others at 14.

Conversely, Congress made a notable comeback in Ajmer, where it became the largest party by winning 37 wards. The BJP followed with 32 wards and others claimed 11. In Bikaner, Congress triumphed with 42 wards, surpassing the BJP, which won 27. Pali also favored Congress with 29 wards, while the BJP secured 21 and others took 15.

In Jodhpur, the contest ended in a draw, with both BJP and Congress winning 44 wards each, while others captured 11. Bharatpur witnessed a surprising turn, where independents won 38 of the 65 wards, leaving the BJP with 20 and Congress with only 7.

The elections for the ten municipal corporations, 51 municipal councils, and 248 municipalities were conducted in two phases. The first phase took place on September 9, covering 162 bodies and 5,393 wards, with a voter turnout of 76.41%. The second phase on September 11 involved 147 bodies and 4,774 wards, yielding a turnout of 71.69%. Overall, the voter participation across both phases was 74.05%.
