Guwahati, September 3: In a shocking incident in Assam’s Kamrup district, a police officer opened fire on his colleagues using an AK-47 rifle. This tragic event resulted in the deaths of two Assam police personnel, while two others sustained injuries. Authorities provided this information on Thursday.
The shooting occurred late Wednesday night at the Gamerimura police outpost, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Boko police station. The deceased have been identified as Fazrul Ali and Indrajit Bora, both of whom were serving as in-charge officers at the Gamerimura police outpost at the time of the incident.
The shooter has been identified as Chiranjeev Chaudhary, but the circumstances leading to the shooting remain unclear. Initial reports suggest that the incident took place within the premises of the Gamerimura police outpost. However, officials have yet to disclose whether there was any prior argument or other events that may have triggered the shooting. The motive behind the attack is still unknown.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident by examining statements from personnel present at the outpost and other available evidence.
Earlier, on August 4, a similar incident occurred in Assam’s Nagaon district, where an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) opened fire at a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp, killing two personnel and injuring another before turning the gun on himself. The accused was identified as SI/ GD Ballani Premabaram from Andhra Pradesh. He was found without his service rifle and subsequently took an INSAS rifle from the camp’s guard room.
Afterward, he shot ASI Mane Govind Shripul of the 171st Battalion, leaving him severely injured and requiring immediate hospitalization.
