Guwahati, March 27: Central Minister Sarbananda Sonowal stated that the upcoming Assam Assembly elections are vital for the Assamese community. He emphasized that the people are seeking a permanent solution to long-standing issues, particularly illegal immigration.
Addressing reporters, Sonowal noted that immigration from Bangladesh has been a serious concern for decades, affecting the state’s socio-cultural and demographic structure.
He asserted that the people of Assam now desire a decisive and lasting resolution. Only the BJP possesses the political will and commitment to address this issue permanently.
Sonowal mentioned that all Indian citizens in Assam currently live with dignity and security, and the state’s diverse communities have historically upheld inclusive values.
He stressed that the Assamese identity and its cultural roots will only be safeguarded under a BJP-led government.
In a sharp attack on the Congress party, the senior BJP leader accused them of failing to protect the interests and security of the Assamese people during their tenure.
Referencing the Assam movement, he pointed out that many lives were lost, highlighting Congress’s inability to address the state’s core concerns.
Sonowal highlighted the achievements of the BJP government, particularly the removal of encroachments in Kaziranga and significant steps taken to preserve the state’s ecological and cultural heritage.
He stated that strengthening security measures in Kaziranga National Park has greatly improved the protection of the one-horned rhinoceros and curbed illegal poaching activities.
The central minister accused Congress of imposing unconstitutional laws and ignoring the aspirations of the people of Assam.
