New Delhi, March 28: The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) are the most successful teams in IPL history, each having won the championship five times. Key players MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, and Ravindra Jadeja have significantly contributed to CSK’s five IPL titles. However, IPL 2026 will mark the first time these three legends will not play together for CSK.
The IPL began in 2008, with CSK claiming its first title in 2010. The team went on to win again in 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023, all under the captaincy of Dhoni. Raina played a vital role in four of those victories (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021) with his explosive batting, while Jadeja contributed with his all-round skills in three titles (2018, 2021, 2023).
As IPL 2026 approaches, it has been confirmed that none of these champions will be part of CSK. Suresh Raina, known as ‘Chinna Thala,’ joined CSK in 2008 and played his last season in 2021, the year CSK became champions again. After that season, Raina’s IPL career came to an end, and he parted ways with the team.
Ravindra Jadeja joined CSK in 2012 and played his final season in 2025. The all-rounder, famously known as ‘Sir Jadeja,’ played a crucial role in the 2023 IPL final, hitting a four and a six in the last two balls to secure the championship. Before IPL 2026, CSK traded Jadeja to Rajasthan Royals in exchange for Sanju Samson, marking the end of his journey with CSK.
Following Raina and Jadeja, Dhoni remains the only player who has been part of all five title wins. His leadership has been instrumental in achieving this success. Although Dhoni was expected to play in IPL 2026, CSK management confirmed that he will miss the first two weeks of the season due to injury. This means he will likely miss at least four to five matches.
For the first time since 2010, CSK will open a season without the trio of Raina, Jadeja, and Dhoni.
It is worth noting that CSK faced a two-season ban (2015 and 2016) during which Dhoni played for Rising Pune Supergiant, while Raina and Jadeja were part of Gujarat Lions.
