Assam Education Minister Assures SSA Teachers on Salary Delays

Guwahati, August 7: Assam’s Education Minister Ranoj Pegu reassured teachers who were permanently appointed under the Special Recruitment Drive (SRD) of the Samagra Shiksha Assam (SSA) that there is no uncertainty regarding their salaries. He explained that the delay in payments this month is temporary and that funds will be credited to their accounts within the next two days.

This assurance came after a meeting with representatives from the SRD Teachers Welfare Forum and the All Assam Primary Teachers Association, who had expressed concerns over the salary delays following their regularization as government employees.

Pegu stated that the delay was due to changes in processes under the state’s financial reforms, not due to any issues related to the teachers’ jobs or salary entitlements. “There is no problem regarding the salaries of these teachers. Although there has been a slight delay this month, they will receive their payments within two days,” he said.

He further explained that the salary distribution system has been altered as part of the government’s treasury reforms. Additionally, he confirmed that all service benefits available to regular government employees will continue without any changes.

According to the minister, the regularized teachers have now been linked to the ‘FinAssam’ portal, which will serve as a platform for salary payments and other service-related transactions. Previously, their salaries were issued through the district treasury, but this month’s payments will be processed through the Dispur treasury under the new financial system.

Pegu clarified that there have been no changes to the salary head or the service conditions for the teachers after their regularization. He emphasized that after completing their tenure under Samagra Shiksha, the teachers have been incorporated as regular employees of the Assam government and will continue to receive all benefits, privileges, and service conditions applicable to permanent government employees.

In urging teachers not to panic, the minister described the delay as a one-time issue related to the migration of the payment process. He assured that once this transition is complete, salaries, pay slips, and all other service-related procedures will be managed through the ‘FinAssam’ platform, ensuring timely monthly payments through the treasury system.
