New Delhi, August 7: During the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament, West Bengal BJP President Samik Bhattacharya responded to questions raised by the opposition regarding the absence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He stated that the BJP is fully prepared for discussions, but the opposition is wasting parliamentary time by focusing on irrelevant issues.
Bhattacharya emphasized that the BJP has always aimed to build consensus in Parliament and engage in meaningful discussions on important matters. He noted that the public elects their MPs to raise issues, discuss laws related to the country’s future, and convey the people’s grievances. However, he criticized the opposition for diverting attention from these responsibilities.
Responding to the opposition’s concerns about Amit Shah’s presence in the House, Bhattacharya asserted that the Home Minister does attend Parliament and that there has never been a situation where the Prime Minister, Home Minister, or Defence Minister avoided discussions on serious issues. He challenged the opposition, asking if they would genuinely be ready for discussions if Amit Shah were present.
He urged the opposition to clarify the issues they wish to discuss. While the BJP is ready for dialogue, he pointed out that the opposition often begins by demanding resignations. Bhattacharya remarked that the public is watching the proceedings and understands the political direction of various opposition parties.
On the FCRA Bill, Bhattacharya defended the government’s stance, stating that the BJP seeks cooperation in the House and expects all parties to participate in discussions on significant legislation. He mentioned that Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju had met with Rahul Gandhi regarding floor management. He assured that the FCRA Bill would be presented in Parliament, and the government would make every effort to pass it.
Recalling Congress’s past political era, Bhattacharya noted that when Congress was in power, the Indian Janata Sangh and later the BJP had cooperated with the government on legislative matters.
On the occasion of National Handloom Day, he referenced Prime Minister Modi‘s video and discussed the status of the handloom sector in West Bengal. He highlighted that a large number of people in Bengal are involved in handloom and weaving, making it essential to secure their livelihoods and future.
Bhattacharya called for collective efforts to preserve the country’s traditional arts and handloom industry. He mentioned that the central government has been promoting khadi and handloom for a long time, with various initiatives in several states to advance this sector.
He also criticized Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s government regarding the JPSC-JSSC paper leak issue in Jharkhand. He stated that students have been protesting against the paper leak for a long time, but the government has not shown the necessary sensitivity.
He stressed the need to strengthen and make the examination system transparent, urging all political parties to collaborate in creating a system that eliminates the possibility of paper leaks. Bhattacharya believes that if all parties present their suggestions and work together, improvements can be made to the examination system.
