Tehran, August 7: Iran’s chief negotiator has accused U.S. President Donald Trump of engaging in “theater diplomacy.” Meanwhile, the U.S. claims that negotiations with Iran are in the final stages, a statement Iran has consistently denied.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament and top negotiator, mocked Trump on the social media platform X, stating, “A big attack is coming. Wait, never mind, they want to talk. This is a game of theater diplomacy.”
Recently, President Trump announced that he had agreed to halt planned attacks on Iran following appeals from several Middle Eastern countries and Tehran. Ghalibaf’s comments came in response to Trump’s statement.
Previously, Trump had asserted that a framework for a deal with Tehran had already been established. However, Iranian officials dismissed this claim, insisting that no negotiations were ongoing.
Meanwhile, the conflict is spreading throughout the region, posing new threats to the Gulf’s energy infrastructure and key shipping chokepoints.
Additionally, a Saudi official informed CNN that Saudi Arabia is prepared for coordinated attacks from Iraqi militia groups working with Iran-backed Houthis. Intelligence reports from Saudi Arabia and regional governments indicate that these groups are planning to attack the country under the guidance of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
This warning follows the Houthis claiming responsibility for attacks on two Saudi oil tankers in the Gulf of Aden. The location of the attack is another critical shipping chokepoint. In recent weeks, Saudi Arabia has faced missile and drone attacks from the Houthis and Iranian-supported Iraqi militias.
