Assam Completes Online Census Phase with Over 1.16 Million Entries

Guwahati, August 18: The self-enumeration phase of the Assam Census 2027 has successfully concluded. Over 1.16 million families submitted their information online before the deadline on August 16.

According to officials, the districts of Cachar, Shivsagar, and Kokrajhar emerged as the top performers in terms of participation.

During a press conference held at the Census Operations Directorate, Assam’s Census Director, Biswajit Pegu, announced the completion of the online phase. He expressed gratitude to citizens for their participation and cooperation during the self-enumeration period.

The next phase of the Census 2027 commenced across Assam on Monday and will continue until September 15. This phase involves listing households and conducting the housing census.

Trained census personnel will visit homes to collect the necessary information during this phase. Pegu emphasized that the counting will adhere to the principle of “no one left out, no one counted twice,” and security measures will be implemented to maintain the confidentiality of the information.

He reassured that the census data is protected under the law and cannot be presented as evidence in court under the Census Act of 1948.

Parth Pegu, the state nodal officer for Census 2027 and additional secretary in Assam’s General Administration Department, was also present. He urged the public to cooperate during the household visits, stressing that accurate and complete data collection is essential.

Officials noted that the aim of this process is to ensure that every eligible family is counted, with no omissions or duplications, while also preserving the confidentiality and reliability of the census information. This household counting phase will continue until September 15.
