Assam Chief Minister Criticizes Gaurav Gogois Political Visit to Jharkhand

Guwahati, March 13: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has criticized Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi for his recent political discussions in Jharkhand. Sarma stated that Assam’s political matters should not be influenced from outside the state.

Speaking to reporters, Sarma expressed his surprise at Gogoi’s decision to engage in political talks outside Assam. He remarked, “I have never seen any political leader from Assam going to Jharkhand for discussions. Assam’s politics does not operate from other states.”

Sources indicate that Gogoi traveled to Ranchi on Thursday evening with senior Congress leader Jitendra Singh. This visit comes amid rising political activity among regional parties ahead of upcoming elections in Assam.

Congress leaders met with Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief Hemant Soren, urging the party to support Congress in Assam instead of the regional Raijor Dal led by Akhil Gogoi. This move follows reports of increasing interactions between the Raijor Dal and JMM leaders.

On March 6, a secret meeting took place at Akhil Gogoi’s residence in Guwahati, attended by two leaders from Jharkhand: Cabinet Minister Chamra Linda and Vishwanath Tirkey, the national general secretary of a tribal organization. Discussions during this meeting centered on a potential alliance among the Raijor Dal, JMM, and the newly formed Jai Bharat Party in Assam.

Further fueling these speculations, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren visited Assam earlier this week and participated in a meeting with the Jai Bharat Party. Sarma noted that these developments indicate a growing political upheaval in Assam ahead of the elections, emphasizing that ultimately, the people of the state will determine its political direction.

Meanwhile, Gogoi’s trip to Ranchi is perceived as an effort by Congress leadership to secure support from JMM for Congress in Assam, rather than for regional parties like the Raijor Dal.
