Guwahati, March 24: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a sharp attack on Gaurav Gogoi on Monday. He questioned Gogoi’s leadership abilities, stating that the Congress MP has failed to keep his party leaders united.
While addressing reporters in Golaghat, the Chief Minister criticized Gogoi’s recent public statements. He claimed these remarks reflect Gogoi’s inability to manage internal party affairs and maintain cohesion among leaders.
Sarma stated, “Such comments are akin to admitting failure as a political leader. The question is, why can’t you retain anyone in Congress? By saying such things, you are proving your own ineffectiveness. I have never seen a leader openly admit that he cannot keep his own party members together.”
He suggested that “it would be better for him to go to Pakistan.”
These comments come at a time when political tensions are rising in Assam ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. Both the BJP and Congress are intensifying attacks on each other regarding leadership issues, defections, and governance.
In recent weeks, Congress has faced several setbacks due to leaders switching allegiances, a situation the BJP has repeatedly highlighted to question the party’s organizational strength in the state.
Sarma’s remarks seem aimed at reinforcing the perception of Gogoi’s leadership challenges within the party.
Meanwhile, former Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Bora, who recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), filed his nomination papers for the Bhimpuria assembly constituency in Lakhimpur district. He also took a jab at the Congress state leaders during a show of strength with senior BJP leaders and supporters.
