Ashish Sood Launches 'Youth for Governance' to Transform Janakpuri MLA Office into Service Hub

New Delhi: In a significant move to redefine the relationship between the government and citizens, Delhi Cabinet Minister and Janakpuri MLA Ashish Sood formally launched the ‘Youth for Governance’ (YFG) initiative on Thursday. Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to involve one lakh youths without political backgrounds in governance, the programme aims to curb nepotism and promote transparent public service.

The initiative is rooted in the evolving mindset across the country that views governance not as a power but as a service. Reflecting this spirit, similar to renaming the Prime Minister’s office as ‘Seva Teerth,’ Race Course Road as ‘Lok Kalyan Marg,’ and the historic Rajpath as ‘Kartavya Path,’ Ashish Sood declared that his office would now serve as a centre for service rather than authority.

Addressing the first batch of participants, Sood highlighted the ongoing shift in national thinking—from colonial-era notions of rule to a sense of duty and service. Whether it is calling the Chief Minister’s residence ‘Jan Seva Sadan’ or reimagining the Prime Minister’s residence, the message is clear: MLA and ministerial offices exist solely for citizen service to bridge the gap between the government and the public.

For Janakpuri, a special group called the ‘Special 12’ was selected from over 350 applicants through a rigorous screening process. This ‘Batch Zero’ includes medical and law students who will work intensively for the next three months addressing key urban issues in the constituency. Their tasks will include conducting cleanliness audits on Pankha Road and identifying poorly lit areas to arrange street lighting, among other grassroots activities.

The core objective of the Youth for Governance initiative is to engage citizens not as mere observers but as active participants in governance. Instead of superficial fixes, the programme aims to address root causes, such as identifying faulty water pipelines rather than just repairing leakages.

Sood challenged the participants to understand the difference between ‘real life’ and ‘reel life,’ emphasizing that while social media can facilitate dialogue, true change happens on the ground. YFG fellows will serve as vital human interfaces, ensuring that the MLA office remains an effective and results-oriented service unit for Janakpuri residents.

He stressed that this initiative is not just about observation but about delivering measurable impact and solutions. Every citizen should feel assured that the government is truly listening.

Elaborating on the fellowship, Sood explained that Youth for Governance is a 12-week intensive programme within the Janakpuri assembly area aimed at gathering well-organised information and enhancing governance effectiveness through problem-solving. This initiative sets a practical example of youth participation in building a stronger Janakpuri and a prosperous Delhi.
