Itanagar, May 28: The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, K.T. Parnaik, stated on Wednesday that women in the state are playing a crucial role in its social, economic, and community life. He emphasized that their contributions are essential for the development and progress of society, and their involvement is vital for making the state self-reliant.
During a meeting at the Lok Bhavan in Itanagar with Vijaya Rahatkar, the Chairperson of the National Commission for Women, the Governor praised the active participation of women in Arunachal. He noted that they are excelling in various fields, including agriculture, entrepreneurship, administration, and social campaigns.
The Governor particularly commended the success of women self-help groups. He pointed out that these groups are transformative in improving livelihoods for women in rural areas, enhancing economic self-sufficiency, and strengthening communities.
The meeting addressed several issues and challenges related to women’s safety, welfare, empowerment, and socio-economic development. The Governor highlighted that women in Arunachal are actively participating in anti-drug campaigns, cleanliness drives, and health and sanitation awareness programs.
He also mentioned that women from various tribal communities have long been the guardians of family values, traditions, and social harmony. Additionally, they play a significant role in preserving traditional handloom, textile arts, and cultural heritage.
The Governor asserted that the progress of Arunachal Pradesh is directly linked to women’s empowerment. He stressed that increased participation of women in education, administration, entrepreneurship, and nation-building is essential for making the state progressive, inclusive, and self-reliant.
He praised the upcoming “Jan Sunwai – National Commission for Women at Your Door” program scheduled for May 29 in Itanagar. The Governor noted that such initiatives provide women with an important platform to voice their issues, seek assistance, and become aware of their rights. Yalem Taga Burang, Chairperson of the Arunachal Pradesh State Women’s Commission, was also present at the meeting.
