Bhagalpur, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : A tragic incident occurred in Bhagalpur, Bihar, on September 21, when six children drowned in floodwaters. The accident took place in Narayanpur village, located within the jurisdiction of the Sultanaganj police station. Among the deceased were four boys and two girls.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the village and surrounding areas. Reports indicate that the children had gone to bathe in a pit filled with floodwater near the roadside. They were unaware of the depth of the water. While bathing, they unexpectedly found themselves in deeper water and began to struggle. Nearby residents rushed to their aid as soon as they learned of the situation and alerted the police.
Upon receiving the report, officers from the Sultanaganj police station quickly arrived at the scene and began searching for the children with the help of local residents. Tragically, all six bodies were recovered. The remains have been sent for necessary legal procedures. According to police, five of the children were from Ward Number 27 in the Sultanaganj area, while one child was from the Sabour police station area.
The news of the tragedy has devastated the families of the victims. The village is engulfed in mourning, with relatives in deep grief. Dhananjay Kumar, the officer in charge of Sultanaganj, stated that the pit alongside the road had collected floodwater, and the children, unaware of its depth, fell victim to the accident.
Authorities have confirmed that all bodies have been retrieved, and necessary actions are underway. It has been reported that the children had gone to the water to celebrate the Karma festival. Currently, many areas in Bihar, including Bhagalpur, are experiencing severe flooding. Officials have urged residents to exercise caution around flooded pits, ponds, and other water sources, advising against allowing children near such dangerous areas.
