New Delhi, May 17: Arshad Madani, the president of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, has expressed concerns about a systematic attempt to transform the nation into an ideological state. He noted that while Muslims were previously the primary targets, Islam itself is now being targeted. Madani asserted, “Muslims have never bowed down, nor will they ever.”
On Sunday, Madani released a declaration from the two-day working committee meeting of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind on the social media platform ‘X’. He stated, “The current state of the country, rising communalism, the silence of constitutional institutions, and the increasing actions against Muslims and Islamic symbols are extremely alarming. However, Muslims have never bowed down and will not do so. They may bend in love, but they cannot be made to bow down in the face of force, threats, and oppression.”
In his post, Madani remarked, “The politics of hatred in the country has now turned into a politics of threats, aimed at instilling fear in Muslims and forcing them to live on others’ terms. There is a dangerous manipulation of peace and unity for the sake of power, resulting in a continuous rise in religious frenzy and hatred, while law enforcement remains a silent spectator. After recent elections, some politicians have increasingly sought power through hate. Religious sentiments are being incited to pit the majority community against minorities, while governments should operate on justice and fairness, not fear and intimidation.”
Madani referenced a statement by the newly elected Chief Minister of West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, who claimed he would “only work for Hindus.” Madani condemned this as entirely contrary to constitutional and democratic values, emphasizing that every chief minister vows to uphold justice for all citizens. Those in power have a duty to protect the constitutional rights of every citizen, rather than engage in politics of hatred and division against any specific group.
He further stated in his ‘X’ post, “There is a planned attempt to transform the country into an ideological state. Measures such as the implementation of a Uniform Civil Code, making Vande Mataram mandatory, actions against mosques and madrasas, and disenfranchising actual citizens under the guise of SIR are all part of this agenda.” Madani affirmed that Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind will continue its legal and democratic struggle against these actions.
Madani also pointed out that previous governments had harmed Muslims socially, educationally, politically, and economically, but the current situation is far more severe. “Laws enacted after 2014 and recent actions clearly indicate that the current government aims to harm not just Muslims but Islam itself,” he stated.
In conclusion, the president of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind appealed to all justice-loving parties, social organizations, and citizens concerned for the nation to unite against communal and fascist forces. He urged them to collectively fight for brotherhood, tolerance, justice, and the supremacy of the Constitution.
