Dia Mirza Clarifies Her Diwali Message Amid Controversy Over Pollution Awareness Video

Dia Mirza defends her Diwali awareness video after political backlash, emphasizing the need for pollution reduction during festivities.

Mumbai, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : Actress Dia Mirza has responded to the political uproar surrounding her video promoting pollution awareness, which was part of a campaign by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The video was recently removed from the BMC’s social media channels amidst the controversy.

In her statement, Mirza remarked, “Diwali is a celebration of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair. The video was created to raise awareness and inspire people to celebrate the festival in a healthier and more thoughtful manner. Air pollution is a public health issue, and every effort made to reduce it is a step towards a better environment for all.”

The BMC launched this initiative to address rising air pollution levels in Mumbai ahead of Diwali. The campaign featured videos with Mirza, actress Madhuri Dixit, and cricketer Ajinkya Rahane, urging the public to minimize the use of firecrackers and celebrate the festival with environmental consideration.

However, the release of Mirza’s video sparked a political backlash. Amit Satam, the president of the Mumbai BJP, criticized the actress, stating that citizens should not look to her for guidance on how to celebrate Diwali. He emphasized the importance of traditional practices and suggested that people are already well-informed about their festivals.

Following the escalating controversy, the BMC decided to take down Mirza’s video from its platforms, although no public explanation was provided for the removal.
