Anti-Drug Campaign in Jammu Leads to Arrest of 18; Security Meeting for Amarnath Yatra Held

Jammu, June 24: In a significant anti-drug operation, Jammu police have detained 18 suspects linked to drug-related activities. Concurrently, a security meeting was held in Reasi district to discuss preparations for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra.

On Wednesday, Jammu police announced that the South Zone police conducted a special search and cordon operation in the Valmiki Colony of Gandhinagar. This action was initiated following reports of marijuana sales in the area.

During the operation, over 250 homes were searched, leading to the detention of 18 individuals for questioning and verification.

The operation was meticulously planned under the leadership of the South Zone SP of Jammu, aimed at identifying and curbing the activities of active drug traffickers and anti-social elements in the region.

Authorities stated that their objective is to completely dismantle the drug network and urged the public to provide any information related to drug trafficking to the police.

Meanwhile, in Reasi district, a multi-agency meeting was convened at the district police lines to discuss security arrangements for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, Kausar Nag Yatra, and Shri Buddha Amarnath Yatra.

The meeting was chaired by SSP Mukund Tibrewal and included senior officials from the police, army, CRPF, CISF, BSF, JKAP, and intelligence agencies. Officers at the SHO level participated online.

Discussions focused on the security situation and ensuring a safe, peaceful, and smooth conduct of the yatra.

Officials deliberated on law and order, counter-terrorism measures, monitoring of overground workers, tracking of terrorists and missing youth, prevention of radicalization, and intelligence-based operations.

The SSP emphasized enhancing security along travel routes and in sensitive areas, including critical installations like the Chenab Bridge, Anji Bridge, and railway structures.

He stressed the importance of conducting regular mock drills, increasing patrols in sensitive areas, and fostering communication with residents of border villages.

Instructions were also given to support village defense groups with training and firing exercises.

In light of potential threats from Pakistan-linked phone calls, agencies were advised to remain vigilant and refrain from sharing sensitive information.

The SSP directed the inspection of CCTV cameras, the use of drone technology, increasing security along travel routes, adherence to SOPs, and raising awareness among travelers.

He called for readiness among SDRF and other agencies to handle emergencies during the monsoon and instructed the verification of horse and mule drivers participating in the yatra.

The SSP concluded that there is no room for negligence in security, urging all agencies to work together with vigilance and coordination.

At the end of the meeting, all agencies committed to strengthening security preparations.
