Mumbai: Renowned playback singer Arijit Singh, known for lending his voice to numerous romantic Bollywood songs, has announced that he will no longer take new playback singing assignments in Hindi cinema. This decision has saddened many of his fans across the country.
While various reasons have been speculated behind Arijit Singh’s choice, the singer has made it clear that he is retiring from singing in Hindi films. Amidst this, Anil Sharma, the producer and director of the film ‘Gadar-2’, praised Arijit’s voice and his contributions to the film’s soundtrack, expressing hope for the singer’s eventual return.
Arijit Singh lent his voice to several songs in ‘Gadar-2’, including popular tracks like ‘Dil Jhoom-Jhoom Jaye’ and ‘Khairiyat’. Sharing a video from the film on social media platform X, Anil Sharma wrote, “Arijit is truly a genius. The most beautiful songs you have sung for us, whether it was ‘Tera Fitoor’ or ‘Dil Jhoom’ from ‘Gadar-2’. Not just I but the entire industry and audience need many more songs from you. We hope you come back soon, because the joy and essence of a singer lies in singing. Take some rest, but we all eagerly await your comeback.”
Anil Sharma also shared the song ‘Khairiyat’ from ‘Gadar-2’, calling it his personal favourite. He added, “This was the very first song chosen for ‘Gadar-2’. From the very first listen, it became everyone’s favourite.”
There has been much speculation regarding Arijit Singh’s decision to stop taking new Bollywood projects. Some have attributed the decision to T-Series producer Bhushan Kumar, alleging that he forced Arijit to sing in the film ‘Border-2’. However, Bhushan Kumar has denied these claims, stating that only Arijit himself can clarify such matters.
Although Arijit Singh has retired from Hindi film singing, he will continue to perform internationally alongside global stars. The singer is also scheduled for a world tour in 2027. He has confirmed that fans will still hear some Hindi film songs from him in the near future, as he has already committed to certain projects.
