Mumbai, September 28 (Daily Kiran) : Women’s safety has emerged as a pressing issue in India, with increasing concerns over societal attitudes towards women’s clothing and their freedom of movement. Actor Sakib Saleem recently voiced his frustration on social media, addressing the need for a shift in mindset regarding how women are perceived based on their attire.
In a post on Instagram, Saleem challenged those who criticize women’s clothing choices, suggesting they experience life as a woman for a day. He emphasized the need for respect, stating, “Before making someone a goddess, at least acknowledge their humanity. Ask for permission before touching. If you say the clothes are too revealing, remember that it’s your mindset that’s flawed, not her outfit. Whether in a skirt or a saree, women in this country are at risk.”
This isn’t the first time a celebrity has tackled the issue of women’s safety and the negative mindset prevalent in society. Notable figures like Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar have also raised similar concerns. Recently, Khushboo Patni, sister of actress Disha Patani, has been vocal about women’s safety, questioning the effectiveness of current laws and regulations.
On Daughter’s Day, actress Kriti Sanon also highlighted safety issues, asking why women are expected to share their live location, carry pepper spray, or book cabs at night. She remarked that true celebration will come when women can walk alone at night without fear, sit in parks after dark, wear what they choose, and use public transport without the threat of violence.
The call for change is growing louder, as both celebrities and everyday citizens advocate for a safer environment for women in India.
