Tensions Rise in Manipur Following Brutal Killings of Three Volunteers
Tensions escalate in Manipur after three volunteers are killed, prompting calls for justice and security from tribal organizations.

Manipur, October 31 (Daily Kiran) : Tensions are escalating in Manipur after the brutal killings of three volunteers from the Kuki-Jo community. The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), a prominent tribal organization, reported that the volunteers were killed in Noney district during a violent clash between two armed groups.
A police official confirmed that the three individuals lost their lives amid intense gunfire, and additional information is being gathered regarding the incident.
In a statement, KIM expressed outrage and deep sorrow over the murders, alleging that members of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) and the Zeliangrong United Front (Kamsom faction) are responsible. The organization characterized the incident as an attack on the lives and safety of the Kuki-Jo community.
KIM accused local authorities of failing to provide adequate security to sensitive Kuki-Jo settlements in Noney district. Janghaolan Haokip, KIM’s information and publicity secretary, stated that the killings are a direct result of the state government’s inability to ensure the safety of Kuki-Jo communities, despite repeated warnings about potential threats.
The lack of sufficient security has compelled local residents to take up arms to defend their homes and communities, according to KIM. The organization condemned the alleged actions of the killers, who reportedly desecrated the bodies of the deceased, describing such behavior as inhumane and unacceptable.
KIM further criticized the government for its negligence, stating that ongoing failures to curb armed activities have left Kuki-Jo settlements and surrounding areas vulnerable to violence. The group claimed that the state government’s handling of NSCN-IM’s activities has exacerbated insecurity in the region.
Calling for accountability, KIM demanded justice for the victims and immediate, stringent action against those responsible for the murders. As investigations continue, police have indicated that more information will be forthcoming.
