Bengaluru, June 17: A group of saints representing various marginalized communities in Karnataka has appealed to Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar for adequate security for Pranavanand Swamiji. This request comes in light of alleged death threats against him on social media.
This situation is significant as Pranavanand Swamiji has previously challenged former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and questioned his claims of being a champion for backward classes. He has also staged protests in Delhi against Siddaramaiah and has advocated for Shivakumar’s appointment as Chief Minister.
A delegation of saints, associated with the Brahmashri Narayanaguru Shakti Peeth Trust and the Union of Monks from extremely backward communities, met with the Chief Minister at his residence in Sadashivanagar. They submitted a memorandum demanding protection for the saint.
Among the petitioners were Swamiji Sangmanand from the Sarvadharma Samaj, Dodendra Swamiji from the Vishwakarma community, Sardar Sevalal Swamiji from the Banjara community, Basavmurti Kumbhara Guddiya Swamiji from the Kumbhara community, Halliraya Natikar Swamiji from the Hugar community, Karunakara Swamiji from the semi-nomadic community, and Marulshankar Swamiji from the Pinjara community.
According to the memorandum, Pranavanand Swamiji, associated with the Brahmashri Narayanaguru Shakti Peeth in Kalaburagi and the Sharana Basaveshwara Math in Haveri, recently expressed concerns about injustices faced by the Idiga community and other backward classes during a conference held in Gokarna.
The saints noted that they had urged the government to allocate funds equitably among all communities, referencing policies from Siddaramaiah’s tenure. Following their comments, several organizations and leaders from the Kuruba community reportedly opposed their statements and planned protests, as Siddaramaiah has ties to this community.
The delegation further alleged that some comments posted on television and social media contained threats against the saint, including calls for physical harm. They expressed concern that such incidents could escalate tensions between communities and jeopardize safety.
The saints have called on the state government to take immediate action to ensure the safety of Pranavanand Swamiji and to prevent inter-community tensions from escalating.
