Amit Shah to Review India-Bangladesh Border Security During Tripura Visit

Agartala, June 2: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Tripura from June 4 to 5. During his visit, he will assess the preparations of the Border Security Force (BSF) and other agencies to tackle various challenges along the India-Bangladesh border.

A senior official stated that after chairing the 73rd plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) in Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, Minister Shah will arrive in Agartala on Thursday evening.

During his stay in Tripura, Home Minister Amit Shah will hold a high-level meeting with officials from the BSF and other security agencies to review border-related issues. Before the meeting, he plans to visit select locations along the border in West Tripura to personally evaluate the current situation.

While touring the Bangladesh border, Minister Shah will lay the foundation for several infrastructure projects, participate in a plantation campaign, and attend a soldiers’ conference.

He will also inaugurate a hotel project, which is being developed in collaboration between the Tripura government and a private entity.

The Tripura government, BSF, and West Tripura district administration are making extensive preparations for the Home Minister’s two-day visit to the state.

Tripura shares a long border with Bangladesh, measuring 856 kilometers, making it a region of significant security concern. The state is surrounded by Bangladesh on three sides, and apart from about 21 kilometers of difficult terrain, most of the international border is fenced to prevent smuggling, infiltration, cross-border crimes, and the movement of hostile elements.

A senior BSF officer mentioned that surveillance and monitoring along the international border have intensified since unrest erupted in Bangladesh in June-July 2024, particularly after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government on August 5, 2024.
