New Delhi, June 12: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah conducted a high-level review meeting on Friday regarding the security and arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra. The meeting focused on ensuring that the pilgrimage is completely safe, accessible, and well-organized.
Amit Shah emphasized the government’s commitment to providing top-notch security and convenience for pilgrims visiting Amarnath. He instructed all relevant agencies to work in coordination with each other.
During the meeting, it was decided to create a multi-layered security grid along the pilgrimage route, in collaboration with Central Armed Police Forces, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and other security agencies. To enhance security measures, there will be extensive use of drones, CCTV cameras, modern surveillance systems, and other advanced technologies, alongside strengthening traditional security mechanisms.
The Home Minister directed that senior officials from the Central Armed Police Forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police should be present at various camp sites to continuously monitor security and arrangements. Additionally, proper arrangements for pilgrim registration, accommodation, health services, and disaster management must be ensured.
It was also decided to register local residents involved in the pilgrimage and the animals used during the journey. All will be issued QR code-based identification cards. Special camps will be set up for health checks of the animals.
Considering weather conditions, arrangements will be made for the orderly movement of pilgrim groups. Travelers will be allowed to proceed based on weather conditions and forecasts. Instructions have also been issued to maintain robust security at other major tourist destinations in Jammu and Kashmir.
This year’s Amarnath Yatra will commence on July 3 and conclude on August 9, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan. Registration for the pilgrimage is mandatory and can be done through the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board and authorized banks.
