Ahmedabad, August 27: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will review preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games and the proposed 2036 Olympic Games in Ahmedabad on Thursday. This review meeting is part of Shah’s busy one-day visit to Gujarat.
The meeting will take place at the Circuit House Annex in the Shahibaug area of Ahmedabad. It is crucial as the city gears up to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, while India has also bid to host the 2036 Olympics. Ahmedabad is being considered as the host city for both events.
Previously, Shah has conducted reviews of preparations for major sports events. In May, he met with Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi, and senior officials to assess the progress of sports infrastructure and related projects in Ahmedabad.
This review is essential as the sports infrastructure in Ahmedabad is being enhanced ahead of the Commonwealth Games. The Narendra Modi Stadium is located in Motera, and the construction of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave is underway.
The central government stated that India was awarded the rights to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games after evaluating sports infrastructure, participation, and facilities in over 70 countries.
Shah mentioned that Ahmedabad will host the World Police and Fire Games in 2029, and there is a strong possibility that the city will be awarded the 2036 Olympic Games. However, the hosting rights for the 2036 Olympics have not yet been confirmed for Ahmedabad.
India has submitted its bid for the Games, and the Olympic Committee will soon announce the next host city for the Olympics.
