Mumbai, July 29: Maharashtra Congress leader and MLA Amin Patel has written to BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). In his letter, he requested that voters affected by redevelopment projects be considered during the SIR process.
Patel emphasized that the Maharashtra government, along with private developers and housing societies, is undertaking the redevelopment of many old and dilapidated buildings across the state and in Mumbai. As a result, original residents and tenants have been temporarily relocated to transit camps or alternative housing until these projects are completed. Most of these projects are expected to finish within the next two years, allowing residents to return to their original homes.
He stated, “Currently, many of these residents are living in rented accommodations or transit housing, leaving them without a permanent residential address. Consequently, they are unable to update or change the addresses recorded on their electoral photo ID and other election records. This situation has created anxiety among affected residents, who fear that their names may be removed from the electoral roll during the ongoing enumeration or Special Intensive Revision (SIR).”
Patel urged the BMC Commissioner to ensure that the names of these voters remain on the electoral roll based on their original residential addresses, despite their temporary relocation due to redevelopment. This measure would help ensure that genuine voters are not excluded during the ongoing enumeration or SIR process. He called for appropriate directives to be issued to verify the names of actual voters and maintain their inclusion in the voter list based on their original addresses during the ongoing processes.
