Balatal, July 19: The Amarnath Yatra has been temporarily suspended from the Balatal route due to warnings of heavy rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir. Pilgrims have been advised to remain at the Balatal base camp and nearby shelters until further notice.
Speaking about the suspension, one pilgrim stated, “We came to Jammu for the Amarnath Yatra. We learned about the possibility of heavy rain, prompting the government to halt the journey for three days. The administration will assess the weather before resuming the pilgrimage. This is a wise decision. If heavy rain continues, pilgrims should stay safe where they are, monitor the weather, and follow the administration’s instructions.”
Another pilgrim shared, “We arrived here yesterday, but the journey has been halted for three days due to adverse weather. This is essential for our safety, and we have no objections.” The devotee further mentioned that if the weather worsens and the journey is delayed further, they will wait, as they are determined to have darshan of Amarnath Ji.
Pilgrims are urged to avoid bringing children and elderly individuals, as it could lead to complications. A devotee from Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, remarked, “The journey has been suspended for our safety. There is a risk of landslides on the route, which is why the pilgrimage is halted. We have come for the Amarnath Yatra 14 times; this is part of the experience.”
He advised travelers to check the weather and timing before setting out. The journey is currently suspended for three days, after which it will resume. He emphasized that the government takes steps for our safety, and every pilgrim’s security is a priority for them.
