Bhopal, May 16: Following the tragic suicide of a 34-year-old woman in Bhopal, police have filed a case against her husband and mother-in-law for dowry-related offenses.
Assistant Police Commissioner Rajneesh Kashyap Kaul confirmed on Friday that an FIR was registered late Thursday night at the Katara Hills police station against Giribala Singh and her son, Samarth Singh.
The case includes various charges, such as dowry death and dowry harassment. Giribala Singh retired as a district judge in February 2023, while her son practices law at the district court.
ACP Kaul stated that police teams are conducting raids at the suspects’ residences and other potential locations. However, neither individual has been arrested yet.
This action follows ongoing protests by the family of Twisha Sharma, who passed away on Tuesday. Twisha, originally from Noida, was found hanging from a pipe on the roof of her home in Bag Mughalia Extension.
According to police, her husband rushed her to AIIMS hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Twisha married Samarth Singh six months ago on December 12, 2025, after meeting on a dating app. She held an MBA degree and had been employed at a company in Delhi for several years.
Her family has accused the couple of murder and destruction of evidence, claiming that they fabricated a false narrative of suicide to mislead investigators.
For the past two days, Twisha’s family and relatives have been protesting outside the Katara Hills police station, demanding action against Giribala Singh and her son.
On Thursday, family members, relatives, and friends gathered outside the police station with placards, calling for immediate action. They also created a disturbance at the commissioner’s office.
Twisha’s brother, Harshit Sharma, alleged that the police are hesitant to act due to the influence and power of the accused.
