Jammu, June 28: A bus carrying personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) met with an accident in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. The incident resulted in injuries to nine individuals, including eight CISF personnel and the bus driver. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter.
According to officials, the accident occurred on Sunday afternoon near the Tarakot area of Reasi district. The CISF bus was transporting security personnel when the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to skid off the road and crash.
Three of the injured CISF personnel have been referred to Narayana Hospital for advanced treatment, while the remaining injured individuals, including the bus driver, are receiving care at a local hospital.
Police officials have stated that an inquiry has been launched to determine the causes of the accident.
Just a day prior, on Saturday, a severe road accident took place in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. A vehicle lost control and fell into a deep gorge near the Basti village in Bhaderwah. The accident claimed the lives of 60-year-old Jaitoon Bibi and 65-year-old Imam Din, while four others sustained injuries.
According to police, poor road conditions in hilly areas, overloading, speeding, reckless overtaking, and negligent driving are the primary causes of road accidents. Such incidents frequently occur in hilly districts like Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Poonch, Ramban, Udhampur, and Reasi.
The traffic department has deployed special teams for road safety in these regions. Regular actions are being taken against violators of traffic rules. Additionally, petrol station operators have been instructed not to provide fuel to two-wheeler riders without helmets.
The transport department periodically conducts awareness campaigns regarding traffic rules and associated penalties. There are provisions for fines, penalties, and cancellation of vehicle registration for parents of minors caught driving. Moreover, drivers who commit serious traffic violations risk having their driving licenses revoked.
